We are proud to announce the appointment of Glenn Murcutt & Angelo Candalepas to Design World-Class Residence 271 Elizabeth Street
The mixed-use development, located on the former site of the prestigious Hyde Park Inn, will consist of 42 opulent two, three and four-bedroom residences, boasting unparalleled views of the park and over the Royal Botanic Gardens to Sydney Harbour. Additionally, the development will feature a range of lifestyle-enhancing amenities that will exceed all standards of luxury living for its residents and exclusive ground floor hospitality spaces, establishing it as a sought-after Sydney destination.
It was only fitting to work with the best – awarded architects and long-time friends Glenn Murcutt and Angelo Candalepas – on the design of this extraordinary project that will pay respect to the building’s rich heritage and enviable location in the heart of Hyde Park as it becomes a pivotal cornerstone of Sydney’s future. This collaboration is the first time the pair have worked together on a project for the City of Sydney.
Glenn Murcutt is the sole Australian recipient of the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize. His other notable projects include the Arthur and Yvonne Boyd Education Centre, in collaboration with Wendy Lewin and Reg Lark; Donaldson House, Palm Beach; Walsh House, Kangaroo Valley; and the Australian Islamic Centre, Victoria.
Angelo Candalepas is best known for his Sulman Medal-winning projects All Saints Grammar School, Belmore, and Punchbowl Mosque; multiple award-winning residential apartments and the recently completed M Gallery Accor Hotel and ‘The Castle’ development on Bathurst Street.
“We are delighted to be working with Central Element to transform this iconic Elizabeth Street property at a time when Sydney’s status as a global city continues to grow on the world stage. Having the opportunity to design a development that will take the city into the future for liveability and lifestyle is exceptional and comes with responsibility. We look forward to this project becoming an important piece of Sydney’s future.”
The architectural design of 271 Elizabeth Street places a strong emphasis on framing the picturesque views nearby, including the enchanting avenues along Elizabeth and Castlereagh Street. In terms of the materials, the design will utilise a beautiful warm grey granite cladding to create a sense of unity and a sculpted presence. The design meticulously attends to the expression of materials and intricate details, resulting in a harmonious form that celebrates craftsmanship.
When we launch to market next year, we are excited to unveil a park side address that will set a new benchmark for premium inner-city living, rivalling international property standards amongst the likes of London’s No. 1 Grosvenor Square and New York’s Beckford House and 1228 Madison Avenue.
271 Elizabeth Street is set to launch to market in early 2024 and we will share more about its captivating aesthetics and ambience in due course.
